General Requirements:

The general requirements for the Permit include;

  • Not being in Spain under any irregular or illegal circumstances.
  • 18 Years of age.
  • Clean criminal record in Spain.
  • In the five years the applicant has lived abroad, there has been no criminal activity.
  • Offenses defined in the relevant Spanish legislation should not have been broken.
  • Not be subject to an alert issued for the purposes of being refused entry in the geographical boundaries of countries with which Spain has legal contracts.
  • The applicant is required to possess a public or private health insurance policy with an insurance company authorised to carry on its operations in Spain.
  • Have ample monetary resources for themselves and their families during their initial stay in Spain.
  • The applicant must pay the visa or authorization processing fee.

The spouse or partner and children under legal  age or those of legal age who cannot provide by themselves and have not formed their own family and parents who are dependent, who might join the foreigner, may apply successively for their authorization and/or visa.

HOW LONG DOES THE PERMIT LAST?

Basically there are 3 main periods concerning the actual residency. These include:

  1. The Initial Visa

  1. 2-Year Residency Permit.
    If this step is performed directly from Spain during a visit then it is granted instantaneously.
  2. 5-Year Residency Continuation.
